BeamNG.drive v0.40 hotfixes target urgent issues

The v0.40.1 update addresses vehicle physics, Career Mode, split-screen settings and a terrain-reading bug on some mod maps.

A batch of fixes is now in place for BeamNG.drive version 0.40. The game’s official Steam News announcement says the hotfixes address the most critical and urgent issues reported after the release.

The changelog for v0.40.1, dated October 20, 2026, covers several pressure points: vehicle behavior, a split-screen settings hang, Career Mode tutorial popups and an altitude error affecting some mod maps.

Vehicle fixes lead the list

The vehicle changes focus on crashes, loads and physics stability. BeamNG.drive fixed the Vivace and Tograc front bumper bar spiking in crashes, as well as FPU Box Trailer configurations whose loaded weight was far higher than advertised. The amount carried by double pallet stacks has also been unified with single stacks.

Elsewhere, generic tow hitches have been made more stable to reduce the likelihood of vehicle physics instabilities. The notes also record a small flatbed floor typo fix and a correction for AI that could be missing `signalsData` under some circumstances.

Career, split-screen and mod maps

Outside vehicle behavior, the patch fixes a hang in the split-screen settings menu when using a vehicle with a custom configuration. Career Mode receives a fix for tutorial popups that could get stuck.

One engine issue affected some mod maps: an invisible ground plane could be read at the wrong altitude, making vehicles appear to drive in mid-air. The announced fix addresses that incorrect reading.

What the hotfix changes for players

The confirmed scope is a focused round of repairs rather than a new feature announcement. For players, the changes target disruptions that can affect ordinary driving, custom configurations and progression through the Career tutorial. Mod-map creators and players also have a specific terrain-related issue addressed in the notes.

That matters most where a bug interrupts play or makes vehicle behavior look wrong. The announcement does not provide details on performance results or further changes beyond the listed fixes, so their effect should be understood within that scope.
