Formula E and Heron Preston preview racing fashion at ComplexCon

The Los Angeles showcase paired a GEN4 car in an exclusive livery with a concept built around recycled cotton.

Formula E and Heron Preston previewed a creative partnership at ComplexCon in Los Angeles last weekend, highlighting a fashion concept that turns recovered materials into new design. The showcase included an exploration of Preston’s eX-Ray concept and a GEN4 car featuring an exclusive livery designed by Preston. Formula E published its report on October 6, 2026. According to Formula E, eX-Ray examines a product’s materials and how they are made, as well as the people and processes involved. The concept takes a considered approach to developing and using materials rather than simply choosing existing fabrics. For the Formula E preview, the partnership used recycled cotton made from pre-consumer factory off-cuts and production scraps. The scraps are sorted, shredded and re-spun into yarn, then developed into a heavyweight, tightly woven fabric. Visitors at ComplexCon had an opportunity to see the material concept alongside a GEN4 car wearing an exclusive Heron Preston-designed livery. The display presented the collaboration as an exploration of how recovered materials could inform motorsport fashion. The preview brought Formula E’s GEN4 design into a fashion-focused setting while introducing the partnership’s approach to recycled materials.
