The Grounds’ Popularity Exposes a Queueing Problem

EA says small-sided football is drawing players, while Kickabouts can be harder to start. Matchmaking ideas are under review, not yet announced as features.

In an update published on October 2, EA SPORTS FC 27’s development team said players are spending time in The Grounds’ 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 and In-World Rush activities. The same activity is making it harder to gather enough players for some Kickabouts, according to the team.

That tension matters because a mode can be popular overall while still leaving individual activities difficult to start. EA says it is considering several ways to address the problem, but has not confirmed a solution or release date.

Popularity does not guarantee a full match

EA’s update identifies Kickabouts as a particular challenge: when players do get a match underway, the team says, feedback suggests it can be enjoyable; assembling enough participants is the obstacle. The studio is considering ways to let players signal that a gameplay site needs more people, connect players across servers while keeping them in the world experience, and run scheduled Kickabout-focused events.

These are approaches under consideration, not announced features. For players, the distinction is important: the update describes investigation rather than a timetable. For organizers and streamers, the same shortage may make spontaneous activity harder to coordinate, though EA did not quantify how often Kickabouts fail to start.

Winner-stays is still being explored

The team also reports requests for winners to remain on a pitch and build a streak. EA says players and streamers are already tracking streaks themselves, and that it has begun exploring designs for a built-in experience. More details, the studio says, will follow only as its investigation produces concrete plans.

That points to a community-created competitive pattern the developers may support directly, but no finalized design or launch timing was provided.

One Clubs change is live; other fixes vary in status

Title Update v1.0.1 reintroduced long-term fatigue in Clubs 11v11. EA says it made the change after feedback that infinite stamina could disproportionately benefit larger Clubs over smaller ones, and says it will monitor how the adjustment feels in practice. The update does not provide performance data or a further balance assessment.

EA also says fixes have been deployed for five-star skill moves failing in small-sided matches and high ping in some cross-region Clubs games. Incorrect Archetype Point costs are under investigation. Potential fixes for erratic 1v1 goalkeepers, portal teleport access, preferred positions in 11v11 drop-ins, opening the world map while queued, and map input opening the Season Pass are being tested. Menu responsiveness is also being tracked, with no fix or timing specified.

What players can expect next

EA says it will host a Grounds- and Clubs-focused Q&A in the official EA SPORTS FC Discord, but has not announced a date or time. The development team also directed players to the FC 27 Player Feedback Portal. The update’s clearest near-term signal is therefore incremental: one fatigue adjustment is in place, some bugs are fixed, and several larger usability questions remain open.

Newsroom

The update offers a snapshot of where activity is concentrating—and where the game’s social design still has friction—but leaves the main matchmaking proposals without commitments or dates.
