Tape to Tape will leave Early Access on Friday, October 23, according to an official announcement from the Tape to Tape team published on Steam. The team’s 1.0 preview puts a freshly remade roguelite campaign at the center of the release, with 19 playable squads, a new unlock system and changes reaching from puck physics to the soundtrack.

For players, the recipe is a mix of team-building decisions and run-by-run combinations: hire players, manage bench space when a squad permits it, and stack relics and power-ups. The announcement also says the full version will add Nightmare difficulty.

A new campaign, with 19 ways to play

The developers describe the 1.0 campaign as completely remade. Players will build a team, choose a path and face increasingly ridiculous opponents on a quest to save hockey. Each of the 19 squads introduces its own rules, mechanics and playstyle, giving the campaign different starting ingredients rather than one fixed setup.

A new challenge-based unlock system will award players new characters, power-ups, relics, squads and more during runs. Relics and power-ups can also be combined by stacking their effects, creating room for different builds. The announcement does not detail every unlock or combination.

Gameplay changes across the rink

The update’s hockey adjustments include changes to physics, puck behavior, controls and the overall feel of play. Goalies have also been reworked, with the team listing improvements to saves, movement, positioning, rebounds and puck interactions.

The announced AI changes cover offense, defense, positioning and decision-making. The team says these are intended to make teammates more reliable and opponents more challenging. Nightmare is described as the game’s toughest difficulty yet—a sharper seasoning for players looking for a harder run, though the announcement provides no further details about its settings.

A broader polish pass

Beyond gameplay, the team lists a complete UI and UX overhaul, upgraded arenas and rendering, new visual effects, and new music, sound effects and crowd audio. It also reports hundreds of balancing changes, fixes and quality-of-life improvements across the game.

For streamers, the varied squads, unlocks and ability combinations may offer different run setups to show viewers; that is a potential benefit of the announced systems, not a feature the team specifically highlights for streaming. The announcement makes no claims about tournament support or competitive formats.
