Basketball NBA and College Evening report

LeBron James made his first appearance for the Philadelphia 76ers on October 8, 2026, producing 10 points, five assists and four rebounds in the first half of a preseason game against the Brooklyn Nets.

Philadelphia led 58-56 at halftime, according to the NBA report. James made one field goal in 18 minutes and went 8-for-8 from the free-throw line.

A playmaking start in Philadelphia

James joined the 76ers during the summer for his NBA-record 24th season. The 41-year-old forward spent the previous eight seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers before signing a two-year, league-minimum deal with Philadelphia.

He did not attempt a field goal until drawing a foul on a drive late in the first quarter. The NBA report noted that he was fouled four times in the first half and made all eight free throws.

A new-look starting group

James started alongside Jaylen Brown, Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe, giving the 76ers an early look at a lineup featuring two high-profile newcomers. Maxey had 14 points in the first half, and each of the other starters had at least six, according to the report.

Philadelphia made seven consecutive shots after missing its first attempt. James helped create opportunities for teammates, including a sequence in which he passed to Embiid, who then moved the ball to Brown for a dunk.

Preseason schedule ahead

The NBA report said Philadelphia had two preseason games remaining, both against the Boston Celtics. It also listed the 76ers’ season opener as October 20 in New York against the Knicks.

The Sixers’ preseason debut offered an initial look at James fitting into Philadelphia’s new starting lineup, with his first-half production coming largely through passing and free throws.
